TruStone is a premium composite material made from finely crushed semi-precious stone (>80%), natural pigments and resin. Once turned and polished, it produces a beautifully smooth, high-gloss surface with remarkable depth and detail - ideal for creating distinctive pens with a genuinely luxurious appearance.

These blanks are the premium pliable grade, specially formulated for pen turners. Unlike harder and more brittle stone composites, the pliable formulation is easier and more forgiving to drill and turn, while retaining the weight, character and polished appearance for which TruStone is known.

Every blank has its own individual pattern and variation, ensuring that no two finished pens will be exactly alike.

Tips for Working with TruStone

• Keep the blank cool during all processes.

• The blank can be cut or trimmed by hand, or with a mitre saw or bandsaw.

• Use a slow drilling speed with frequent pecking to clear waste and reduce heat.

• Water can be sprayed periodically onto the drill bit during drilling to help keep it cool.

• Leave the blank a good bit longer than the brass tube, as blowout can occur when the drill exits the material.

• Use sharp tools and take light, controlled cuts.

• Avoid excessive heat, aggressive tool pressure and heavy cuts.

• Before pen assembly, lightly sand the inside of the brass tube so that components press in easily. Forcing a tight fit may crack the blank; use Loctite if the fit becomes too loose.
